a rainy afternoon in snow country

after my friends left, i had a few days in japan by myself. on a whim, i decided to take the yamagata shinkansen line north to niigata. the next day i meandered back to tokyo via a slow local line, getting off at random spots to explore. i made particular care to stop in yuzawa, setting of yasunari kawabata's snow country. it was raining.
